Janine Coates

Lecturer in Qualitative Research Methods, Loughborough University
Janine is a lecturer in Qualitative Research Methods at Loughborough University in the School of Sport, Exercise and Heath Sciences. Her research interest relate to inclusive education and sport, children's learning and development and outdoor education.

Janine completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University in 2006. From there, she worked in a range of education and support settings with children and adults with disabilities before starting a PhD in Inclusive Education. Janine’s PhD, completed in 2006 at Liverpool John Moores University, focused on the Physical Education (PE) experiences of children with special educational needs & disabilities (SEND) in mainstream and special schools. After this, Janine has worked at the University of Nottingham in the Collaboration for Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) on projects relating to Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and as a Lecturer in Psychology at Nottingham Trent University, before moving to her current position at Loughborough University.

Some of her recent work has related to the learning experiences of children in Forest Schools; the role of parents in elite youth disability sport, and inclusion training in Initial Teacher Education programmes.
