Asian chip stocks traded mixed on Thursday despite Nvidia’s stronger-than-expected quarterly results, as investors balanced booming artificial intelligence demand against rising memory costs, margin pressure and continued uncertainty surrounding China.

Nvidia reported second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion, a 106% increase from a year earlier, while Data Center revenue jumped 117% to $89 billion. The AI chip giant forecast third-quarter revenue of about $108 billion, above market expectations of roughly $104 billion. Nvidia shares initially fell 1.6% during regular trading before surging more than 5% after hours.

The company also expects revenue growth of approximately 70% in fiscal 2028, although it warned that tight memory supply could remain a constraint. Investors also focused on Nvidia’s softer margin outlook and the absence of China data-center compute revenue in its third-quarter forecast.

South Korean semiconductor stocks were among the strongest performers. The KOSPI gained 1.9%, while SK Hynix climbed 3.2% to 1.742 million won and Samsung Electronics advanced 2.2% to 267,250 won. Both companies stand to benefit from strong demand for high-bandwidth memory used in AI accelerators.

Elsewhere, Nvidia-linked semiconductor stocks delivered uneven performances. Japan’s Advantest fell about 2.1%, Disco declined 1.1% and Taiwan’s Powertech Technology dropped 1.2%. TSMC, Nvidia’s key chip manufacturing partner, gained only around 0.4%.

Memory-related shares performed better, with Japan’s Kioxia rising 5.2%. TDK gained 1.4%, Murata advanced 3%, and Taiwan’s Largan Precision surged nearly 10%.

Chinese and Hong Kong markets were similarly mixed. The Hang Seng fell 0.3%, while the CSI 300 gained 0.1% and the Shanghai Composite added 0.2%. Baidu jumped 4.4%, SMIC rose 1.7% and Tencent gained 0.7%. Alibaba, Xiaomi, NetEase and Meituan declined.

Nvidia’s decision to exclude China data-center compute sales from its latest forecast highlighted the continuing impact of U.S. export restrictions, leaving Asian semiconductor investors selective despite the company’s powerful AI-driven growth.
