U.S. President Donald Trump revealed in an exclusive Reuters interview that he had advance knowledge of Israel’s recent strikes on Iran but still hopes for a nuclear agreement. “We knew everything,” Trump said. “I tried very hard to save Iran from humiliation and death... It’s not too late for a deal.”

For months, Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to delay military action while diplomatic talks continued. Despite his efforts, Trump now supports the Israeli raids, calling them “excellent” and “very successful,” underscoring his dual strategy of tough rhetoric and behind-the-scenes diplomacy.

Trump confirmed U.S. support for Israel, including assistance from the U.S. military in intercepting Iranian missiles. He dismissed fears of a broader regional war, saying, “We’re their number one ally by far. We’ll see what happens.”

Talks with Iran remain uncertain following the strikes. Trump said he gave Tehran 60 days to accept a deal halting uranium enrichment, but that deadline expired with no agreement. “They seek enrichment. We can’t have enrichment,” he stated.

A sixth round of nuclear negotiations is scheduled for Sunday in Oman, but Trump expressed doubts it would proceed. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff was set to meet Iranian officials. “We have a meeting... Now, I’m not sure if that meeting will take place,” Trump said.

Israel claimed it struck Iranian nuclear facilities, missile factories, and military targets in what could be a prolonged operation. Trump acknowledged the damage but said the extent of Iran’s nuclear capability remains unclear.

With tensions escalating, the possibility of salvaging diplomacy hangs in the balance as Washington and Tehran navigate one of the most critical moments in recent Middle East history.
