A suspected Iranian drone strike hit a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) station located inside the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, according to a source familiar with the incident cited by Reuters. The attack occurred as tensions escalate across the Middle East following recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran.
While the CIA station inside the U.S. Embassy compound was struck, officials indicated there is currently no evidence suggesting that the intelligence facility was the intended target of the drone attack. The CIA declined to comment on the situation, maintaining its typical silence regarding operational matters and security incidents.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that two drones struck the U.S. Embassy compound in the capital city of Riyadh. The attack reportedly caused a limited fire and resulted in minor material damage to the embassy facility. Authorities stated that the situation was quickly contained, preventing more severe consequences.
The incident marks one of several attacks targeting U.S. locations in the region as the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States continues to intensify. Security concerns across the Middle East have grown significantly following coordinated military actions carried out over the weekend.
Following the strike, the U.S. diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia issued an urgent security alert advising American citizens to avoid visiting the embassy until further notice due to safety risks linked to the attack. Embassy officials also canceled both routine and emergency services for U.S. citizens as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, the mission warned of potential imminent missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats in the Eastern Province city of Dhahran. In its advisory, the embassy urged individuals not to travel to the U.S. Consulate in Dhahran amid the heightened security threat.
The drone strike highlights growing concerns over regional stability as military tensions between Iran and Western allies continue to escalate across the Middle East.
