“Shrek 5” is still anticipated despite the fact that Dreamworks is not releasing any news about it. Though it has been confirmed several years back, the studio has yet to give a new update about the movie.
But then again, fans should not worry because “Shrek 5” is coming for sure. There are indications that it is still pushing through and one example is the assigning of a new writer. When the plans for the movie have been laid out and approved, the bosses also hired some of the new staff who will help with the production.
“Shrek” is coming
The mere fact that a new writer has been hired is already proof that Dreamworks is not shelving “Shrek 5.” Plus, it was revealed that the main reason for getting a new writer is to give the fifth movie installment some fresh concepts and story.
They want to move away from the previous plotline and make “Shrek 5” a different film from the rest of the franchise. This is why it was explained that it is not a sequel but a reboot, as per Screen Rant.
What to expect
This is why when “Shrek 5” finally comes to cinemas, fans will see a totally different story with the same characters. They could show the Shrek family in the city or they could show them traveling but whatever concept they decided to use, it is confirmed that it will have a modern theme.
What’s more, with Michael McCullers being chosen as the new writer, then fans can also expect something like his previous works that include “Austin Powers” and “The Boss Baby.” This would be an interesting twist for “Shrek 5” and truly refreshing. The script is done too so filming can begin any time now.
“He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring,” Mike Mitchell, “Shrek 2” director told Collider. “With this detail, the viewers will see a different story that may be filled with twists and other explosive plots.”
It is clear that “Shrek 5” is not scrapped and it is predicted to arrive on Sept. 23, 2022.
