SK Telecom announced its major stake acquisition in Persona.AI, a pioneering AI developer specializing in voice recognition and natural language processing. The South Korean giant aims to leverage Persona AI's expertise to enhance services for its clientele.
According to The Korea Herald, SK Telecom revealed on Monday, Aug. 21, that through the acquisition deal, it has become the third-largest shareholder of Persona.AI, an artificial intelligence contact center (AICC) based in Seoul. But while SKT confirmed the stake purchase, it did not disclose other details like the price and exact percentage of the stake it now owns in the AICC firm.
Persona.AI has been providing AI solutions and subscription-based services to its clients. It is the first in the country to offer these solutions, and some of its major clients in Korea are Hanhwa General Insurance and KB Financial Group. The company uses its own natural language processing engine to offer its AI services.
The Korea Economic Daily further reported that an AICC makes use of AI technologies to provide a 24-hour customer consultation service. This customer center is handled by AI chatbots and callbots, which are voice engines. The technology recognizes and analyzes sentences to make 24-hour consultations possible.
This makes it easier for companies to give immediate responses to their customers. There will be no waiting time for connecting to an agent as the AI chat and phone bots will answer queries and concerns immediately.
"Persona AI developed its own natural language-processing engine and launched the nation's first subscription-type AICC service," an official of SK Telecom said in a statement. "This company has drawn attention in the AICC field with its technological know-how and product competitiveness."
Lee Gyu Sik, SK Telecom's vice president of the AICC business unit, further stated, "We will lead the fast-growing AICC market through joint product launches and proactive technology development with Persona.AI and expand the ecosystem to enable voice-based AIs to be used in various industries."
