Princess Beatrice and the royal family cancel wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and here’s why

Princess Beatrice was scheduled to tie the knot with her fiance Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at St. James's Palace but it seems this will not push through. Their special day has been set for May 29, however, since over 3,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19, fears of wedding cancellation came true.

Scrapped nuptials

BBC reported that Princess Beatrice and Mozzi’s wedding reception was confirmed canceled over the coronavirus pandemic but a small ceremony may still take place if they will be allowed to. A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace revealed that the royal family will consider the advice of the government before making any final decisions regarding the nuptials.

For her granddaughter’s wedding, Queen Elizabeth was supposed to host the reception at the garden of Buckingham Palace. But sadly, all of Her Majesty’s events including her garden parties were already scrapped and this includes the princess’ marriage ceremony to her fiance.

“Beatrice and Mozzi wish to avoid unnecessary risks,” the spokesperson said. “They’re particularly conscious of the well-being of older family members and large gatherings of people.”

Second wedding cancellation

This is the second time that Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mozzi’s wedding schedule has been delayed. Their plan to tie the knot was halted last year after the bride-to-be’s father Prince Andrew got involved in a scandal due to his close connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

As per UK’s Express, the 31-year-old princess is Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter with ex-wife Fergie Ferguson. The publication stated that the ninth in line to the throne is very sad about the postponement of her wedding for the second time around.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi started dating in October 2018. The latter has a child with Dara Huang but they were never married. The couple got engaged in September 2019 and their engagement party took place in December of that same year.

Finally, Princess Beatrice and her fiance are said to be considering a behind-closed-doors type of wedding with only five people in attendance compose of the bride, groom, two witnesses and the priest. They will hold a grand celebration later, once the coronavirus pandemic is over and everything is back to normal, but at this time as there are no concrete plans yet, the wedding is delayed for an indefinite time.
