The National Basketball Association's (NBA's) LeBron James is calling out the National Football League's (NFL's) Drew Brees for saying in an interview that he still does not condone NFL players who kneel during the playing of the national anthem which is done before a game starts.

James of the Los Angeles Lakers took to his Twitter account to take to task Brees, quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, for saying that he does not agree with anyone who will show disrespect to the flag of the United States.

Entertainment Tonight reported that according to Brees, in respect for those who fought for the country in the Second World War and to those who fought during the 1960s civil rights movement, everyone should stand when the national anthem is played and put their hands over their hearts.

Brees further added that it is a show of unity, that they are all in this together, and that they are all part of a solution to whatever problem their country is facing.

In 2016, Colin Kaepernick started the "taking a knee" movement during the singing of the national anthem in protest against the systemic racism that black Americans are continually put through.

James pointed out that Brees still did not get the point why Kaepernick kneeled on one knee even with the ongoing outrage that resulted from the death of Minneapolis' George Floyd, a black American who died as a result of police brutality last May 25, 2020.

James also called out Brees' line that his grandfathers fought in the war, saying that his father-in-law did too but never found Kaepernick's act as disrespectful.

King James added that it was not disrespectful because they know what is right and what is wrong.

Aaron Rodgers, who plays quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, also responded to Brees, recalling how a few years ago they also staged a peaceful protest by locking arms before the game. He added that it was never about the flag or the national anthem before appealing for everyone to listen with their hearts open.
