It is almost three years now since Michelle Obama left the White House, but she is following through on one of her initiatives as a first lady. Her efforts were announced in the launching of a new Instagram TV series that will highlight special stories of select college freshmen students.
Michelle Obama is the newest IGTV personality
On early Tuesday, the digital media company ATTN: released the first look on Michelle Obama’s IGTV series. The show is made possible through the collaboration of ATTN and the Reach Higher program, an initiative of the former first lady established in connection to Barack Obama’s North Star 2020 program when they were still at the White House.
North Star 2020’s main goal was to make America the country with the highest college graduation rate in the world again. With that, Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher’s goal is to encourage students to finish their education beyond a high school diploma.
The show announced this week is titled “A Year of Firsts” as it revolves around the daily life of four first-year college students across the United States. It is unclear if Michelle Obama will be making appearances in the six-part series, but the trailer gives viewers an idea of the things that the show will tackle. At one point, one of the featured students mentions not liking coffee, but the beverage becomes a necessity to keep him awake for his class schedules.
Michelle Obama’s newest media project launches in January
The trailer also hints that the show might mostly feature self-documented videos taken by the four students to show the ups and downs of college life. ATTN: co-founder Matthew Segal shared (via Axios) that the series will highlight stories of other students that the four main casts will meet around their dormitories or online.
Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative encourages students to pursue education beyond college may it be in a “professional training program, a community college, or a four-year college or university.” But it is yet to be revealed if the students in the series are attending different types of tertiary education programs. The first of six episodes will reportedly air this month.
