“Jack Ryan” season 3 will be produced under a new showrunner. While the continuation of the political thriller series has been confirmed, it might take a while before its fans can watch Jack’s (John Krasinski) next mission.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3 production updates
It was reported last fall that the daily production operations for “Jack Ryan” season 3 would be under the leadership of “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring. He follows the series co-creator Carlton Cuse and notable screenwriter David Scarpa who were the showrunners of season 1 and 2, respectively.
Despite it being a major change, it is unlikely that having a new showrunner would cause any delay in the production of the next season. Amazon Prime Video has been ordering new seasons of “Jack Ryan” in advance, suggesting that plans for the storyline and possible cast additions have been in place at an earlier timeline as well. However, a release date for “Jack Ryan” season 3 is still unknown, leaving fans hoping that it could happen sometime this year.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3 release date: What to expect
Without any solid update on the production timeline of “Jack Ryan” season 3, fans can only look back to how the first two seasons shape up to get an approximation of the release date window. Cuse and Graham Roland were reported to be developing their take on Tom Clancy’s popular Ryanverse in 2015. But the production of season 1 was not reported until early 2017 when Krasinski was spotted filming in Washington, D.C. The first eight episodes of the series streamed on Amazon Prime Video on Aug. 31, 2018.
Meanwhile, filming of season 2 reportedly began in the summer of 2018 and wrapped up in early 2019. The show returned with new episodes last Halloween. These details suggest that both seasons were in production for more than a year.
“Jack Ryan” season 3 was announced in February 2019, but any information about the next season, including its synopsis, has not made it to the public yet. There is also no report or any signs that the filming already started making it very unlikely for the third season to premiere sometime in 2020.
