U.S. investigators have released images of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed during a university event in Utah. Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA and a key ally of President Donald Trump, was shot on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem. Officials described the killing as politically charged, though no motive has been confirmed.

Authorities revealed the shooter used a high-powered bolt-action rifle, later recovered in nearby woods. Security footage shows the suspect, dressed in black with sunglasses and a cap featuring a U.S. flag and bald eagle, climbing to a rooftop before firing. The shooter fled into a residential neighborhood and remains unidentified. Investigators are analyzing prints, footprints, and engraved ammunition found at the scene.

Trump condemned the shooting as a “heinous assassination” and announced Kirk would posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He expressed confidence in law enforcement, noting “big progress” in the case. Vice President JD Vance flew to Utah to comfort Kirk’s family and accompany them home.

Kirk’s death sparked widespread outrage across the political spectrum. Known for his outspoken defense of conservative values, gun rights, and Christian faith, Kirk built a national following through Turning Point USA, podcasts, and debates. His “American Comeback Tour” had planned 15 campus stops, with the Utah event drawing 3,000 attendees before turning into chaos.

FBI Director Kash Patel is expected to provide updates, while a $100,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest. Kirk leaves behind his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young children. His killing adds to a troubling rise in U.S. political violence, heightening concerns about threats against public figures.
