Donald Trump has been sparking worries among Americans after it was revealed that he came into contact with individuals that may potentially test positive for coronavirus.
Throughout the past couple of days, the POTUS’s critics and supporters have been encouraging him to get tested especially after seeing him looking unwell during his press conferences. Melania Trump’s husband also struggled to pronounce certain words, and he continuously tried to catch his breath during his speeches.
But White House physician Dr. Sean Conley shocked the nation when he said that it’s unnecessary for the president to get tested and to also self-isolate despite the worldwide directive given by WHO.
“The President's exposure to the first individual was extremely limited (photograph, handshake) and though he spent more time in closer proximity to the second case, all interactions occurred before any symptom onset. These interactions would be categorized as LOW risk for transmission per CDC guidelines, and as such, there is no indication for home quarantine at this time. Additionally, given the President himself remains without symptoms, testing for COVID-19 is not currently indicated,” Conley said in a statement.
During his recent interview with a group of reporters, the POTUS was asked if he would subject himself to a coronavirus test and his response was less than reassuring. The president that he would most likely get tested fairly soon but stressed that he has not been experiencing any symptoms.
Shortly after, multiple publications confirmed that Trump had already been tested for coronavirus and the results were negative. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham gave Americans an update regarding the president’s health with his permission.
“Last night after an in-depth discussion with the President regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed. One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation in Mar-a-Lago, the President remains symptom-free. I have been in daily contact with the CDC and White House Coronavirus Task Force, and we are encouraging the implementation of all their best practices for exposure reduction and transmission mitigation,” Grisham said.
