Donald Trump revealed that he will be meeting North Korea’s Kim Jong Un again and this will take place in Vietnam. The announcement was made on Tuesday, Feb. 5 via the American president’s second State of the Union.
Donald Trump explained that the plan to see the North Korean leader is part of his administration's efforts to abolish the country's nuclear program. CNN quoted the U.S. president as saying, "We continue our historic push for peace on the Korean Peninsula. Our hostages have come home, nuclear testing has stopped and there has not been a missile launch in more than 15 months.”
The POTUS added that there is still plenty of works to do to achieve their goal and warned that there is still a high risk of increased tensions with Pyongyang so the summit could be beneficial to diffuse this tension. He went on to say that his relationship with Kim Jong Un is good and if he was not elected to his post in Washington, it is likely that the U.S. is already at war with North Korea.
“If I had not been elected President of the United States, we would right now, in my opinion, be in a major war with North Korea," Donald Trump said.
As mentioned on CNBC, Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un will hold their second summit on Feb. 27 and 28. The exact location of the meeting is still being discussed but the two leading choices are in Da Nang and Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital.
Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un met for the first time last year and the former said that the meeting was fruitful. He announced that North Korea will abandon its nuclear weapons so it is no longer a threat to the U.S. So far, North Korea did not launch another test on its nuclear power since the meeting with the US president.
