The Democrats want Donald Trump to be impeached as soon as possible. They have been calling for the Congress to start the impeachment proceedings now but it appears that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not for it.
In a surprising turn of events, Pelosi, a known critic of Donald Trump, said she is against the impeachment of the POTUS. But then again, her reason for not supporting the idea is not something to be proud of though. She said that the president is "just not worth it."
The House Speaker revealed her thoughts on the call for Donald Trump’s impeachment through an interview with The Washington Post on Monday, March 11. The feisty politician simply said, "I'm not for impeachment," when asked about her stance regarding the issue.
Nancy Pelosi then explained why she is against it by saying, "Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there's something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don't think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s (Donald Trump) just not worth it."
She stressed that although she does not want the impeachment, she still think that Donald Trump is not fit to be the president of the U.S. "I mean, ethically unfit. Intellectually unfit. Curiosity-wise unfit. No, I don't think he's fit to be president of the United States," she stated.
Despite the scathing remarks, Donald Trump thanked Nancy Pelosi for not wanting the impeachment. On Twitter, the POTUS wrote on March 13, “I greatly appreciate Nancy Pelosi’s statement against impeachment, but everyone must remember the minor fact that I never did anything wrong, the Economy and Unemployment are the best ever, Military and Vets are great - and many other successes!”
Meanwhile, Judiciary committee chairman Jerrold Nadler previously told ABC News via BBC that impeachment is still far from happening because they have to collect pertinent data yet. "Impeachment is a long way down the road. We don’t have the facts yet, but we’re going to initiate proper investigations," he said.
