Former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are among the most influential political figures not just in the United States, but in the world. Their friendship with both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has also been made known over the years since their eight-year tenure in the White House. In a 2017 interview with the Duke of Sussex, Obama talked about his relationship with his wife.

Prince Harry guest-edited the Today program on BBC Radio 4 back in December of 2017, with the former president as his guest. When the Duke asked Obama what he was thinking about during the inauguration ceremony of his successor Donald Trump. The former president shared that he was grateful that Michelle was by his side throughout their years in the White House.

“She’s not someone who was naturally inclined to politics, so in some ways, despite the fact that she was, I think, as good of a first lady as there ever has been, you know, she did this largely in support of my decision to run,” said Obama. “And for us to be able to come out of that intact, that our marriage was strong, we’re still each other’s best friends, our daughters turning into amazing young women, the sense that there was a completion, and that we had done the work in a way that preserved our integrity and left us whole and that we hadn’t fundamentally changed.”

Obama later admitted he enjoyed finally being away from the “pomp and circumstance of the presidency.”

Meanwhile, publishing company Simon & Schuster have announced that they have compiled more than a dozen interviews with the former president, going all the way back to his days as a senator, into an audiobook. “Barack Obama: The 60 Minutes Interviews” will be released on October 13.

The audiobook also features Steve Kroft of CBS News, who met Obama back in 2007 and has interviewed the former president all throughout his tenure until his departure in 2017.

There are also joint interviews with former first lady Michelle Obama as well as interviews with former vice president Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden included in the audiobook.
