Apple to Overhaul Its Mac Products By Installing Its M4 AI Chips

Apple aiming to launch its first M4-powered Mac products this year.

Apple Inc. is experiencing sluggish computer sales, so it is looking for ways to augment its returns. In line with this, the company is reportedly planning to redesign its entire Mac product line by upgrading them with new in-house processors designed for artificial intelligence (AI).

Apple’s Plan for Mac Revamp

According to Bloomberg, Apple launched its first Mac products installed with M3 chips a few months ago and today, the next generation M4 processor is already close to production. Business insiders said this new AI chip is set to be released in three types.

The company is planning to update all of its Mac models to include the M4 chip in their systems. This information was shared by sources who cannot be identified because Apple has yet to publicly announce this plan.

Aim to Regain High Sales Results

The new Macs with the latest in-house AI chip are coming at a critical time as sales plunged by 27% in the last fiscal year, ending in September 2023. The firm is attempting to recover and breathe new life into its Mac unit by introducing new chips starting with the M3.

Now, by adding its own M4 chip to its Macs, Apple is also trying to catch up with its competitors in the application of AI. The company is lagging behind Microsoft Corp., Alphabet’s Google, and other tech leaders in the integration of artificial intelligence. Likewise, the revamp is part of Apple’s broader push to add AI capabilities across its devices and products.

Finally, Mac Rumors reported that the three varieties of M4 chips that Apple is set to release were said to have been codenamed Donan for the low-end type, Brava for the mid-tier, and Hidra for the top-end. The low-end chip will be installed on entry-level MacBook Pro and low-end ‌Mac mini‌, while Brava chips will be integrated into higher-end MacBook Pro and higher-end ‌Mac mini‌. Lastly, the Hindra, which has been described as the ultra-tier chip, will be fitted into the Mac Pro.
