The Apple Watch 5 is still in development and tech rumors are already speculating that it will have several groundbreaking features. The most recent of which is the alleged inclusion of several hand gestures that can interact with the device with having to tap, swipe, or scroll.
This UI is said to take advantage of the Apple Watch 4’s electrocardiogram heart monitor. Apparently, by simply closing your fist, the Apple Watch 5 can answer an incoming call by maintaining the hand gesture for a couple of seconds. It does this analyzing the blood flow pattern, which increases in the wrist area when users close their first, Inverse reported.
Another feature of the Apple Watch 4 that will play a significant role in this hand gesture commands is the built-in tilt sensor. By simply flicking a wrist, users can scroll through the messages of the Apple Watch 5 without being bothered to tap and scroll the device.
Both of these claims are supported by the recent patent filings by Apple that have been submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This UI will be a welcome change for those interested in purchasing the Apple Watch 5 as it decreases the interaction between users and its small screen.
One of the biggest complaints that people have with the product is that it’s difficult to navigate its apps and features on account of the device having a small surface area. Of course, it’s highly likely that this UI will simply be another alternative means of interacting with the Apple Watch 5. If users wanted to go the traditional route of tapping and scrolling, then that option will still be on the table.
Aside from this promising interface, consumers are hoping that Apple will improve the battery life of Apple Watch 5. While its most recent predecessor sports the best battery life for the entire series, it’s always a welcome change for users to bump it a step further. This is especially true since other tracker devices from Polar and Garmin still beats the Apple Watch 4 by a considerable margin in this front, CNET reported.
