Dr. Mark CJ Stoddart is an Associate Professor at Memorial University. He received his PhD from UBC in 2008. He works in the areas of environmental sociology, social movements, and communications and culture. His first book, "Making Meaning out of Mountains: The Political Ecology of Skiing," was published in 2012 by UBC Press. He is currently working on a second book with Palgrave, "Industrial Development and Eco-Tourisms: Is Co-existence Possible between Oil Exploration and Nature Conservation?" His work on the social dimensions of climate change, nature-based tourism, oil development and conflict, and environmental movements has appeared in a wide range of national and international sociology and environmental social science journals.
