Reader in Social Policy, University of Salford
Lisa is Reader in Social Policy and Associate Director at the Sustainable Housing & Urban Studies Unit (SHUSU) in the School of Health & Society, University of Salford, UK. Over the last 11 years, Lisa has been leading and delivering research focusing on the social welfare needs of a range of socially excluded and marginalised communities. This includes a portfolio of projects assessing the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic communities (e.g. Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, Central and Eastern European migrants, asylum seekers and refugees), homeless people and those experiencing welfare interventions.
Lisa leads SHUSU’s dedicated Work and Welfare research sub-group, which includes leading the University of Salford’s involvement in a five year ESRC funded project focusing on welfare conditionality (http://www.welfareconditionality.ac.uk/) and a project funded by the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) focusing on the experiences of Armed Forces Service leavers in the mainstream benefits system (http://www.welfareconditionality.ac.uk/about-our-research/service-leavers/).
In addition, Lisa has been working with Salford City Council to establish the Salford Anti-Poverty Taskforce and is responsible for coordinating a programme of research that supports Salford’s anti-poverty strategy.
Lisa sits on the Editorial Board for the journal Social Policy & Society, and is also a member of the Greater Manchester Poverty Action Group and the Salford Sanctions and Conditionality Task Force.
