Assistant Professor of Nursing, University of Calgary
My emerging program of research focuses on the risks and protective factors associated with youth and young adult substance abuse in Alberta, and the associated impact on the family. This research promotes mental health and well being for all children and families through education and prevention, early intervention and treatment, recovery and continuity of care. I will develop research projects which:
1) promote educational programs and policies for safe alcohol and substance use (including harm reduction strategies) for students at the University of Calgary;
2) support existing collaboration with Calgary Police Services to enhance drug and alcohol educational programs and early-intervention approaches for students and families in middle schools;
3) identify unique features of families experiencing substance use disorders and approaches that provide direct services for treatment, continuing care, and recovery supports.
