Associate Professor of Communication Studies, Wilfrid Laurier University
Greig de Peuter is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. He researches the political economy of media and cultural production, with an emphasis on transformations of work, employment, and labour politics under contemporary capitalism.
Currently, he is researching emerging collective responses to precarious work and social and economic inequalities in the arts, media, and cultural industries. The framework for this research is Cultural Workers Organize, a SSHRC-funded collaboration with Enda Brophy, Nicole Cohen, Kate Oakley, and Marisol Sandoval. Cultural Workers Organize investigates union drives, alternative worker organizations, policy reform proposals, digital campaigns, and infrastructures of mutual aid that counter precarity within and beyond the cultural and creative industries.
He is coauthor of Games of Empire: Global Capitalism and Video Games (University of Minnesota Press) with Nick Dyer-Witheford. His research is published in the Journal of Communication Inquiry, European Journal of Cultural Studies, Canadian Journal of Communication, Frieze, Briarpatch, and STIR magazine.
