He graduated with a doctoral degree in Public Law, with specialisation in regional integration law, from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. His research interest primarily focuses on the institutional development of the African Union, in particular the process of supranationalising the institutional architecture of the organisation. Other research interests include critical approaches to international law, international politics, transnational policy analysis, new paradigms of inter-state relations, and governance and democratisation in Africa. He has written widely on issues of African integration, democracy and good governance, and development in Africa. He has also granted interviews to print and broadcast media within and outside Africa on regional integration and development matters in Africa. He currently serve as the editor-in-chief of the Southern African Public Law journal and also a member of the editorial boards of the African Journal of Democracy and Governance (RADG) and the Nigerian Yearbook of International Law (NYIL).
