Broad Research Interests
1) Social, economic, psychological, cultural influences on child health and development; the interface between socioeconomic, psychological and biological factors contributing to inequalities in child health and development
2) Gender and health and drug use and HIV in China
3) Health and wellbeing in immigrant and refugee children and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
Current specific research focus
Connections between the 24 hours/7 day economy and the health and development of children in Australia and other developed countries. Specifically, she is interested in the impact of parental employment status, work hours and work scheduling (e.g., nonstandard work schedules) and job characteristics on children’s health and development (e.g., behavioural problems, diet and obesity, risk taking, and educational achievement) and factors that may mediate or moderate this impact, such as family resources and processes.
