Research Associate, Film Studies/Cultural History, University of East Anglia
I am a cultural historian with a particular interest in leisure practices and cinema culture in twentieth-century Britain. My PhD investigated British food rationing propaganda in the Second World War, and formed the basis of my first monograph, The Food Companions. I was subsequently awarded an Early Career Fellowship by the Leverhulme Trust, and used it to undertake research into cinemagoing during World War Two. This research was written up, and published in 2016, as Cinemas and Cinemagoing in Wartime Britain, 1939-45: The Utility Dream Palace. I am currently engaged as a Research Associate at the University of East Anglia, working on an AHRC-funded project looking at British cinema in the 1960s, where I have been investigating the intersection of film and advertising, and film and popular music.
