Clément is a Research Fellow for Iran at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). He holds a doctorate in sociology from EHESS and a doctorate in international history from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Geneva). He completed his thesis in Geneva in February 2011 on relations between Tehran and Moscow since 1979 from an Iranian perspective.
