Filippo Furi finalise une thèse en anthropologie à l'Université de Montréal (Canada) consacrée à la notion de ville-refuge et aux "pratiques et politiques d'accueil des demandeurs d'asile à Venise".
Il est membre de l'association Migreurop, réseau européen et africain de militants et chercheurs dont l’objectif est de lutter contre la généralisation de l’enfermement des étrangers, coeur de la politique d’externalisation de l’Union européenne.
