Julian is interested in the methods practitioners use in large-scale software engineering development programmes. He is also investigating approaches to the deployment of internet-hosted software services.
He is a co-chair of the IFIP international conference on the social implications of computers in developing countries, Indonesia, 2017, having formerly been a higher education IT advisor in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He is a Fellow of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, Senior Fellow of the HEA and a Chartered Engineer.
Dr Bass has an MEd in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and a PhD in Systems Engineering, both from University of Sheffield.
