Prof Fielding was born in Elsies River and grew up in Mitchell’s Plain and Belhar on the Cape Flats. After matriculating at Symphony High, he completed his BSc and all his science postgraduate studies at UWC. A molecular biologist, he has worked as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore. In Singapore he studied the coronavirus (SARS-CoV) responsible for the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
