Rehana Cassim

Senior Lecturer in Company Law, University of South Africa
Dr Rehana Cassim is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law at the Unisa of South Africa. She holds a BA degree (cum laude), an LLB degree (cum laude), a postgraduate LLM in Company Law (cum laude) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and an LLD (in Company Law) from the University of South Africa, Pretoria. Rehana was the recipient of the Society of Advocates Prize for the most distinguished LLB graduate at the University of the Witwatersrand and the recipient of the Faculty of Arts Gold Medal awarded to the most distinguished Bachelor of Arts graduate at the University of the Witwatersrand.

She is an admitted Attorney and Notary Public of the High Court of South Africa. She worked as a research assistant for a year at the Constitutional Court of South Africa. She clerked for the Honourable Justice Albie Sachs and for the Honourable Justice Zak Yacoob. She completed her articles of clerkship at Bowman Gilfillan Attorneys and practised as a Senior Associate specialising in Corporate law. She has lectured Company Law at the University of the Witwatersrand. Rehana joined the Mercantile Law Department of Unisa in 2013. She has contributed to several scholarly books on Company Law, and has published largely in the field of Company Law. Her work has been cited in some High Court judgments. In 2019 Rehana was awarded the Unisa Women in Research Emerging Researcher Award for Excellence in Research.
