Warcraft 3 is one of the few video game properties that have become legendary in their fame and acclaim. Hailed as one of the premier RTS games in the industry, it was the absolute king in its heyday. As such, it’s no surprise that rumors of a possible remaster being in the works is sparking excitement in the industry. Others, however, are theorizing that it could actually be a new game in the franchise.
For now, the rumors with regards to the Warcraft 3 remaster are stemming from the fact that professional players of the game have applied for U.S. visas. This is apparently in preparation to attend a special event at Blizzard, NDTV reports.
The specifics are not up for discussion, of course, but given their status, many are making the obvious guess that it has to do with the game. It isn’t as if Blizzard is above going the remaster route either since it recently gave the same treatment to Starcraft. There’s also the fact that the people responsible for the publisher’s classic games have been trying to find talented people to soup up its back catalog of awesome older titles.
These reasons are what led many to agree that a Warcraft 3 Remaster is the most likely outcome if this rumor comes through at all. Then again, Forbes also posits the possibility that it could be about Warcraft 4 or even Warcraft mobile.
Although the lore of the Warcraft universe has been continued and expanded upon in World of Warcraft, Blizzard has changed things up before by messing with the timeline. There’s no reason why it can’t do the same thing with a fourth installment.
As for the mobile Warcraft concept, the mobile gaming industry is absolutely booming. With even diehard traditionalists like Nintendo getting in on the gig, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Blizzard is cooking up similar schemes.
