His background at DHS positions him as a key figure in advancing U.S. priorities in El Salvador, particularly as the country remains a critical partner in addressing migration, transnational crime, and regional stability.
In his statement, Trump described El Salvador as “one of our most important partners in the region,” underscoring the country’s growing role in U.S. foreign policy toward Central America. He added that Edgar will “play a key role in advancing our Western Hemisphere strategy,” signaling that the nomination aligns with broader efforts to reinforce alliances and promote security cooperation across the region.
