U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that his administration will pursue a permanent halt to migration from what he described as “Third World Countries,” stating that doing so is necessary to allow the U.S. immigration system to “fully recover.” His remarks were made on Truth Social and come amid rising political debate over border security and national safety.
Trump also pledged to end all federal benefits and subsidies for noncitizens, saying taxpayers should not be responsible for supporting individuals who are not U.S. citizens. He further stated that he intends to denaturalize migrants who, in his words, “undermine domestic tranquility,” and deport any foreign national deemed a public charge, security threat, or “non-compatible with Western civilization.” These proposed measures reflect Trump’s long-standing hardline stance on immigration, which continues to be a central pillar of his policy agenda and public messaging.
The comments followed the fatal shooting of a National Guard member near the White House earlier the same day. Investigators reported that the attack was allegedly carried out by an Afghan national, intensifying discussions around immigration vetting and national security. The incident has drawn significant attention, fueling debate on how the U.S. should balance humanitarian obligations with public safety concerns.
Trump’s statements quickly circulated across social media and news platforms, with supporters praising his strong approach to border control while critics expressed concern over the broad scope and potential humanitarian implications of his proposals. As immigration remains a top issue for voters, Trump’s latest remarks are expected to shape public discourse and influence ongoing policy discussions.
The administration has not yet released detailed plans on how these proposed measures would be implemented or how they would align with existing U.S. laws and international obligations, but further announcements are anticipated as the situation develops.
