New York, NY, May 09, 2017 -- Jane Carmody, DNP, MBA, BSW, RN, CENP, NEA-BC, has joined The John A. Hartford Foundation as a new Program Officer, the Foundation announced today. Dr. Carmody has enjoyed a long and successful career in health care with a focus on the care of older adults. She has practiced in community social work, psychiatric inpatient nursing, intensive care, and community health care. She has held significant executive leadership positions over the years, including as Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) Health, formerly Alegent Creighton Health.

Dr. Carmody has focused on safety, quality, and the patient-family care experience during her career, and most of her leadership and care practices have been to design and improve care models and health promotion systems for older adults. She has initiated and supported innovative solutions to improving outcomes such as a parish nursing network and a nursing home network. She has overseen system excellence designation programs such as Pathway to Excellence, Magnet, and NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders). In the fall of 2016, Dr. Carmody and her husband relocated to New York to be closer to their family.

Dr. Carmody is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), National Gerontological Nursing Association, American Geriatrics Society, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She is certified as a nurse executive in practice (CENP) by the AONE, and as a nurse executive advanced (NEA-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Dr. Carmody has served on many boards over the years including the College of St. Mary, Hospice House, New Cassel, and the American Heart Association. Dr. Carmody graduated from Mercy College in Des Moines with a diploma in nursing and from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a social work degree. She also holds an MBA from Creighton University and a DNP from Rush University.
