Samsung is rumored to break tradition with the release of the Galaxy S10 series this year. The company is expected to launch, not only two but a total of three variants with one that supports 5G connectivity.
The South Korean tech company has yet to make any official announcement about the Galaxy S10 series. But there has been a persistent rumor that they will launch a third Galaxy S10 device dubbed by reports as the Galaxy S10 X 5G.
Obviously, one of its highlight features is the support of a 5G network. But that’s not to say that the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ will not get the connectivity upgrades as well. Since this is a premium smartphone line, Samsung is expected to equip all three devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.
The availability of 5G networks around the world is still quite limited and is not expected to fully roll out until 2020. However, it is understandable if smartphone makers like Samsung would like to get ahead of that by releasing more 5G-enabled devices as early as 2019. The Galaxy S10 X is now reported as Samsung’s first 5G-enabled smartphone.
In an earlier report, Digital Trends detailed how a Samsung-made 5G prototype device performed on various aspects. Though the concept device still needed more improvements at the time of the demo, it still showed off some promising features such as streaming 4K contents and smoothly displaying it on TV. The device also reportedly downloaded a 1GB file in under 20 seconds. Note, though, that it is still uncertain if it was ever a representation of Galaxy S10 X.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S10 series are expected to sport major design changes based on allegedly leaked photos of the upcoming smartphones. All three devices will likely have much thinner bezels and punch-holes for the selfie cameras. The Galaxy S10 X is even rumored to have a dual front-facing camera.
Samsung has had a fairly consistent launch schedule in the previous years. Based on the announcement dates of Galaxy S7 (2016), S8 (2017), and S9 (2018) it is safe to speculate on a February-March 2019 launch date for the Galaxy S10 series.
