Samsung assured us around the time of the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch that One UI 6.1, the software that debuted on those phones, would be available on additional devices.
The company is currently providing a schedule for the commencement of this launch.
Samsung Confirms One UI 6.1 Update for Galaxy S23 and Beyond with S24 AI Features
Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S23 series, including the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series, will receive One UI 6.1 beginning "late March." Unfortunately, that was all the information provided by the company. This timeline was previously leaked to Android Authority, so seeing the company affirms it is reassuring.
In addition to confirming this timeline, Samsung affirms that all Galaxy AI features that were introduced with the Galaxy S24 series will be available on these older devices. This includes:
- Circle to Search
- Live Translate
- Interpreter
- Chat Assist
- Note Assist
- Browsing Assist
- Transcript Assist
- Generative Edit
- Edit Suggestion
- Instant Slow-mo
Samsung's Bold Move: Galaxy S24 Features to Be Available on Older Models
In general, it is encouraging to see that Samsung will not withhold Galaxy AI capabilities from competing smartphones. Obviously, this makes others hesitant to recommend the Galaxy S24 series to individuals who could save a substantial amount of money by purchasing devices from the Galaxy S23 series, which will shortly have identical hardware and features.
Given that the ten aforementioned features are the flagship attributes of the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung's decision not to artificially restrict them to those phones is audacious. Not that we are complaining; on the contrary, it is somewhat puzzling. However, it does have us somewhat perplexed.
Regardless, we will notify you as soon as we have concrete dates for the One UI 6.1 deployment to the confirmed phones. Additionally, we will inform you as soon as we receive information regarding which other Galaxy devices will receive One UI 6.1.
