Oregon's EV Rebate Program Set to Relaunch, Aims to Boost Tesla Model 3 Sales

Oregon's rebates make Tesla Model 3 more accessible, supporting the shift to electric vehicles.

After being suspended, Oregon's wildly popular EV rebate program, which ran out of money due to many applications, is coming back.

Revving Up for a Greener Future: Oregon to Relaunch Popular EV Rebate Program

Teslarati reported on the program a year ago; it was advantageous for several reasons, including the fact that it reduced the price of Tesla Model 3 sedans to less than $30,000.

In May, however, the program was suspended due to excessive demand. The program received approximately $12 million in funding for the year but ran out of money due to the high volume needed. According to coordinator Erica Timm, whom OPB quoted, the program is expected to return.

Timm stated, "We anticipate reopening the program in Spring 2024, and we hope to announce those 2024 open dates very soon."

When Oregon's dedicated EV credit program was combined with the federal $7,500 credit, qualifying EVs were eligible for an instantaneous $15,000 discount. However, a few additional discounts were also available to local residents.

One was a $5,000 credit for residents with moderate to low incomes. Additionally, $2,500 might be allocated to residents in the area. As the state prepares to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035, Oregon is utilizing the program to increase EV ownership.

According to a study by Fox Business, by 2035, 1.5 million individuals in the state are projected to be operating EVs.

Tesla Model 3 Now More Affordable in Oregon with New Price Cuts and Rebates

Common car purchasers can now afford automobiles such as the Model 3 sedan due to Tesla's recent price reductions for its entire inventory of premium all-electric vehicles. The Model 3 RWD is a cost-effective all-electric vehicle with sufficient range, power, and an impressive array of active and passive safety features, priced at $43,490 before incentives.

However, the Model 3 RWD is available to residents of Oregon, United States of America, for an even more affordable price. The state incentives could reduce the cost of the base Model 3 to between $26,990 and $28,390. Nearly Toyota Corolla territory there. With its standard equipment, a 2023 Toyota Corolla XSE could increase the price of the modest Japanese sedan by approximately $26,500.

Oregon consumers who purchase electric vehicles can accumulate incentives for a reduced price on their preferred EVs. The $7,500 federal tax credit and an additional $7,500 incentive through the Oregon Clean Vehicle and Charge Ahead Rebate programs of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality are included.

Oregon's Lucrative EV Incentives Make Electric Cars Unprecedentedly Affordable

According to a report by The Street, local Oregon residents may also be eligible for a $2,500 rebate on the purchase or lease of a new electric vehicle, and residents with low to moderate incomes are eligible for an additional $5,000 incentive on qualified used or new electric cars. The eligibility criteria for the incentive are electric vehicles whose prices are at most $50,000. The Model 3 RWD satisfies this condition.

Additional regional incentives that purchasers of electric vehicles may avail themselves of include utility rebates. The possible value of these incentives is between $1,500 and $100. Considering these incentives, the publication computed the reduced prices of several well-liked electric vehicles in Oregon. It follows that they are exceedingly compelling.

For instance, the Model 3 RWD is available for $43,490. Considering the federal tax credit of $7,500, the Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate of $2,500, the Oregon Charge Ahead Rebate of $5,000, and local incentives ranging from $100 to $1,500, purchasers of electric vehicles in Oregon could potentially save approximately $26,990 to $28,390 on a base Tesla Model 3.

Nevertheless, it is not the Model 3. With Oregon's incentives, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, with an MSRP of $45,995, could be purchased for $29,495 to $30,895. The Chevrolet Bolt EV, an already-affordable electric vehicle, could be bought in the state for between $10,000 and $11,400, while the Nissan Leaf, a veteran EV from Japan, could be purchased for between $11,540 and $12,940. Naturally, a car purchaser is assumed to satisfy the state's eligibility requirements to obtain the available tax credits and incentives.
