He emphasized that Johnson inherited a challenging situation following the ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, an event Lawler described as "the single stupidest thing I've ever seen in politics." Lawler warned that removing Johnson would be equally detrimental, stating, "These folks are playing with fire, and if they think they're somehow going to get a more conservative speaker, they're kidding themselves."
