Rockstar Games recently let fans know that it is placing more of its resources on the development of the long-awaited “GTA 6.” The developer confirmed that these changes also meant shifting focus away from other existing games. But there are reports that it may have also led to the cancellation or postponement of other unannounced projects, including a next-generation version of “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
The studio is known for taking years before launching mainline series installments for its popular franchises like “Grand Theft Auto” and “Red Dead Redemption.” While an all-new title is not released yet, Rockstar often releases an “enhanced version” of the latest games, similar to the next-gen version of “GTA 5” for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
New reports suggest that Rockstar had considered giving “Red Dead Redemption 2” the same treatment, meaning having an upgraded version of the sequel to match current-gen consoles’ hardware capacities. However, well-established Rockstar insider Tez2 recently told a fan that it may have been canceled or halted as the developer shifts focus to the “GTA 6” development.
Per Tez2, it doesn't look like Rockstar Games wants to ship out a new enhanced version of #RedDeadRedemption2 for next-gen consoles anytime soon.

This comes just days after the same leaker reported, citing “a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans,” that Rockstar decided not to pursue the development of “GTA 4” and “Red Dead Redemption 1” remasters. For these games, however, Tez2 suggested Rockstar’s decision was influenced by the “poor reception” of the “GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.”
As per a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans, remasters of GTA IV & RDR1 were on the table a few years ago, but Rockstar chose not to proceed with the projects in mind.

It is worth noting that Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have not made official announcements about a next-gen version of “Red Dead Redemption 2.” So fans are unlikely to get confirmation from these companies if the project was in consideration or if it is ever going to happen in the future.
However, the reported cancellation or postponement of the “Red Dead Redemption 2” enhanced version comes a few days after Rockstar announced it will no longer release major updates for “Red Dead Online.” “Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” the studio said in a blog post. “And as a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online.”
