Developers just announced that the “Microsoft Flight Simulator” is getting a Game of the Year edition launching next month. Aside from new features, the latest version of the game will also come with one of the most requested content – a military jet.
Jorg Neumann, head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, announced the Game of the Year Edition through an Xbox Wire blog post on Tuesday and confirmed there would be a total of five new aircraft included in this version. On top of that list is the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, which will mark the arrival of the game’s first military jet.
The addition of a military jet in “Microsoft Flight Simulator” should not come as a surprise. Developers announced a few months ago that the game is getting an expansion based on the Tom Cruise-starring movie “Top Gun: Maverick.” However, the expansion was delayed after the movie’s release date was moved to May 27, 2022.
The “Microsoft Flight Simulator” Game of the Year Edition will also include Volocopter’s electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft named VoloCity. “This is our first aircraft that can perform pinpoint landings and is a teaser of what you can look forward to in 2022 when we intend to launch helicopters in the sim,” Neumann said in the announcement post.
Developers also included the utility short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft called Pilatus PC-6 Porter from Switzerland with various cockpits, cabins, and landing gear. The Game of the Year Edition also features CubCrafters’ new NX Cub that provides a nosewheel option for the CC-19 XCub Aircraft. Lastly, the upcoming “Microsoft Flight Simulator” release will include the Aviat Pitts Special S1S with a single-seat option.
Fans will also get new hubs as part of the “Microsoft Flight Simulator” Game of the Year Edition. To make the military-themed experience complete, developers will add the Patrick Space Force Base (KCOF) and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX) based on airports of the same name in the United States.
New airports from Central Europe are also part of the next release, including Germany’s Leipzig/Halle Airport (EDDP), Allgäu Airport Memmingen (EDJA), and Kassel Airport (EDVK), as well as Switzerland’s Lugano Airport (LSZA), Zurich Airport (LSZH), and Luzern-Beromunster Airport (LSZO). The “Microsoft Flight Simulator” Game of the Year Edition will be released on Thursday, Nov. 18.
