Iran Targets U.S. Forces in Jordan as Missiles Intercepted

Iran launched missile attacks targeting U.S. forces stationed in Jordan on Sunday, marking a fresh escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran as military exchanges resumed across the region.

Fox News reporter Trey Yingst reported the attack on X, citing a U.S. source familiar with the situation. According to the initial assessment, the Iranian missile strikes caused no significant impact, while nearly all incoming projectiles were successfully intercepted.

The attack came shortly after U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island, near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command said Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces had been observed preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the waterway, prompting the American military operation.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards subsequently confirmed a retaliatory missile operation against U.S. military targets in Jordan. Jordan's military later said its air defenses intercepted eight missiles that entered the country's airspace.

The renewed Iran-U.S. confrontation raises concerns about a broader escalation in the Middle East, particularly because the latest military exchanges are connected to activity around the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is one of the world's most important energy transit routes and remains closely watched by global oil markets.

Sunday's exchange represented the first direct U.S.-Iran military confrontation in more than a month, interrupting a period of relatively reduced fighting in the six-month conflict. Iran had vowed retaliation after the U.S. operation on Larak Island reportedly caused casualties among Iranian personnel and civilians.
