BARCELONA, Spain and WILMINGTON, Del., Feb. 22, 2016 -- MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS -- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, today announced that the company will demonstrate a 5G access technology platform, one of the first of its kind and more than five years ahead of the expected broad market rollout of 5G, at Mobile World Congress, the industry's premier conference, from February 22-25, 2016 in Barcelona.
InterDigital’s ultra mobile broadband platform will demonstrate 5G access link technologies for enabling higher capacity mobile broadband and low latency communication. The platform uses radio modules developed by GreenWaves SRL using Infineon BGT components and 5G modem design developed in cooperation with Anstreams, LLC to generate a wide bandwidth millimeter wave (mmW) radio access link which incorporates advanced MIMO, and hybrid analog/digital beamforming technology. The technology will meet the challenging requirements of 5G that include very high user throughput experience at 2 Gbps peak and less than 1msec latency with mmW frequencies.
“This milestone is another testament to the tremendous research that our engineers around the world are doing to help usher in 5G technology,” said Lawrence F. Shay, Senior Executive Vice President, Future Wireless at InterDigital. “InterDigital works to help lead the development of some of the core technologies that connect our world and unlock new capabilities for manufacturers, operators and ultimately consumers and businesses all around the world. This along with our other 5G-related demos at Mobile World Congress show we’re on track for that goal.”
The 5G capabilities in InterDigital’s ultra mobile broadband platform will enable new use cases and applications, requiring high-throughput and ultra-low-latency applications like virtual reality and telepresence. Beyond 5G access, additional 5G research by InterDigital includes next-generation network architecture, mobile edge computing and information-centric networking, and other contributions to the industry.
Please feel free to visit the demonstration at InterDigital's booth in Hall 7, Stand 7A71.
