LAS VEGAS, April 12, 2017 -- Global Market Advisors (GMA), a leading hospitality research and consulting firm serving the casino gaming, hospitality, and airline industries, today issued the executive summary to a white paper entitled, "White Paper: Japan Integrated Resorts.” The paper focuses on the full opportunity for integrated resorts in Japan and provides revenue projections for various scenarios and regulatory structure.
“Japan has the potential to be one of the largest gaming markets in the world, generating up to $24.2 billion at six different locations by 2030,” said Steve Gallaway, Managing Partner for Global Market Advisors. As one of the goals of the integrated resort legislation is to increase tourism, GMA has introduced the concept of allowing multiple operators to develop integrated resorts on the Yumeshima Island in Osaka. “Developing the Osaka site, with multiple operators on the ‘Osaka Strip,’ would create critical mass and a true tourist destination. This would compete with Las Vegas, Macau, and Singapore in generating nearly $11.0 billion from that district alone,” said Gallaway.
The full white paper, that will be available for download by May 1, 2017 from GMA’s website, will provide an overview of the Japanese market, potential site locations, definition and examples of various integrated resorts, regulatory and capital considerations, and a deep overview on responsible gaming. In addition, this 100 plus page report will detail the revenue projections with specific sites discussed.
“As the National Diet continues to evaluate the best structure for integrated resorts in Japan, it needs to consider the strong regulatory atmosphere that should be established,” said Brendan Bussmann, Director of Government Affairs with Global Market Advisors. “The Diet needs to balance that regulatory structure with the desire of an operator to build an iconic facility that is representative of a specific site to maximize gaming and non-gaming revenue.”
“Responsible gaming will be one of the most important issues addressed by both the government and operators with the establishment of integrated resorts in Japan,” said Bo Bernhard, PhD. “In writing the legislation and creating a responsible gaming structure, the government can benefit from the best evidence-based and research-based solutions that other jurisdictions have implemented worldwide.”
Global Market Advisors appreciates the contributions by Kazuaki Sasaki, PhD from Toyo University to the white paper. It further appreciates the contributions by Bo Bernhard, PhD on responsible gaming. Global Market Advisors would like to thank Clairvest and Hard Rock International for sponsoring the white paper. The full paper will be available in both English and Japanese. The executive summary can be downloaded at no cost to readers by clicking the link below:
