We’re 10 months deep in 2019, but Rockstar is still maintaining its silence about “GTA 6.” And as the studio remains reticent, rumors about the next entry for the franchise are proliferating on the web.
The latest of which claims that news regarding “GTA 6” will start to surface once Rockstar releases another update for “GTA Online” this December. And while the supposed leaker said that the studio might want to allocate some of its resources to shore up the lapses on “Red Dead Online,” it could also be looking to assign some of its staff to produce the next entry for the highly-acclaimed series, Express reported.
Of course, with no confirmation from both Rockstar and Take-Two, it’s best to treat this “GTA 6” news as a rumor for now. However, there have been a lot of clues that the title will be coming out soon.
GTA 6 maybe two years away
After all, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did say that eight years is too long for an anticipated title to come out. With “GTA 5” celebrating its sixth-anniversary last month, “GTA 6” is officially the longest installment for the entire series.
Game analyst Michael Pachter predicted that the game would come out in 2020 or 2021, referencing the long development of “RDR2” as precedence. What’s more, the political unrest in the U.S. will likely shift next year as the presidential election will be taking place at that time. Series writer Dan Houser said last year that one of the many things that are contributing to the delay of “GTA 6” is the toxic political climate in the U.S.
GTA 6 can’t take advantage of its strength
To be precise, Houser said that since the franchise draws its strength from satirizing reality, it’s difficult to do so now, given that reality today is pretty much a satiric version of itself. Having “GTA 6” portray circumstances based on that angle would get old quick. Houser referred to this as the “Age of Trump,” Boom reported.
And to cap things off, the next console wars will also kick-off next year. There’s no doubt that Rockstar will be developing “GTA 6” as a next-gen console to take advantage of new gaming tech such as ray tracing and all the good stuff that’s coming our way. Best case scenario, we’ll have Rockstar announcing the game at an event next year, with a possible release date in 2021.
