“Fortnite” has been on a roll over the last several months and it would seem that Epic has no plans to let this momentum slow down. The company is set to hold another tournament in a month’s time with the grand prize being a whopping $1 million. Aside from this main event, however, there have been other events that Epic has been dishing out. One even allowed an amateur to win $250,000.
Called the “Winter Royale,” this is basically going to be an open tournament where all interested players can attend if they want and be given the chance to win a lot of money. This is a huge opportunity since previous tournaments were only open to professionals who were recognized. The other exception was the “Fortnite” streamers that had a big enough following either on Twitch or on YouTube.
Fortunately, it would seem that Epic has realized that it has much more to gain by generating a bigger buzz when it opens its doors to the public. As such, anyone who wants to be able to play against the very best “Fortnite” players in the world and has a shot at winning part of that $1 million prize pool can join up.
There have already been instances where even unknown amateurs were able to win big in previous tournaments sponsored by Epic. One example is Austin Etue, 19, who won the “Fortnite Summer Skirmish” held back in September. With his victory came a $250,000 prize money and up until that moment, no one had heard of the teen.
This is basically the magic that the upcoming “Fortnite” tournament is intended to spread all through the industry. By inviting total amateurs to participate, they are given the chance to achieve the same level of recognition and prestige. Winning hundreds of thousands of dollars isn’t a bad bonus, either.
