HOUSTON, April 06, 2017 -- Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE:CCI) ("Crown Castle") announced today that Ken Simon, Crown Castle’s General Counsel and Senior Vice President, has been named a member of the Federal Communication Commission’s (“FCC”) newly formed Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee (“BDAC”) and will serve as Chair of a subcommittee focused on providing access to competitive broadband infrastructure.
“On behalf of Crown Castle, I am honored to be selected as a member of the FCC’s BDAC. As the nation’s largest independent owner and operator of shared wireless infrastructure, with more than 40,000 towers and over 26,500 route miles of fiber supporting small cell deployments, Crown Castle will bring an unique perspective and significant deployment experience to this effort,” stated Mr. Simon.
BDAC’s mission will be to make recommendations for the FCC on how to accelerate the deployment of high-speed Internet access, or broadband, by reducing and removing regulatory barriers to infrastructure investment.
“Chairman Pai should be commended for establishing this federal advisory committee and making the rapid deployment of high-speed internet access for all Americans a core issue of his Chairmanship,” continued Mr. Simon. “Like Chairman Pai, Commissioner O’Rielly, and Commissioner Clyburn, Crown Castle believes strongly in the power of broadband to close the digital divide and stimulate economic growth. It is imperative that policymakers address current obstacles to broadband deployment in order to achieve this goal. I am confident the FCC’s BDAC will play an important role in this effort. I look forward to working with other members of the Committee and getting started on this critical endeavor.”
