Dr. Wolk is Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the State of Colorado’s Chief Medical Officer. He also is the founder and a current board member and part-time pediatrician for the Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics, the first non-profit of its kind in the country to provide medical and nursing services to uninsured and at-risk children and teenagers throughout Colorado, which was honored by the American Hospital Association as one of four model programs in the country.
Dr. Wolk himself has been honored as a Colorado Pediatrician of the Year, a Volunteer of the Year, a Healthcare Executive of the Year, a “7 Everyday Hero” and he is a recipient of the University of Vermont’s Award for Service to Medicine and Community. Most recently, he received the Lifetime Healthcare Achievement Award from the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross. Dr. Wolk also served as an officer on the board of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and the Rocky Mountain Center for Health Promotion and Education.
In addition to his non-profit work, Dr. Wolk is an accomplished healthcare executive with correctional healthcare experience. He served for five years as President and COO for Correctional Healthcare Companies (CHC), a company he helped create and grow into a national provider of inmate healthcare services before leading a successful acquisition by a larger firm. Prior to joining CHC, Dr. Wolk was the Chief Medical Officer for HMS Healthcare, which he helped grow until it was acquired by Aetna in 2007.
Over his 15-year career in managed care, he also has served as the Senior Medical Director of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Colorado and Prudential Healthcare of Colorado, and held both regional and nation positions with CIGNA HealthCare.
“Dr. Wolk has the heart of a public servant and the mind of a business leader,” commented Corizon’s CEO Steve Rector. “Whether working in the public or private sector, he has a track record of developing innovative solutions to deliver healthcare to medically underserved populations – that’s a perspective that will be invaluable to Corizon Health.”
Jeff Goldberg, Chairman of the Board added, “Appointing a physician of Dr. Wolk’s caliber to the board emphasizes our commitment to client service and quality patient care.”
