BOSTON, May 17, 2017 -- Cantella & Co., Inc. (Cantella), a national broker/dealer and investment advisory firm, hosted a Career Night for young people served by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) who are entering the workforce. The first event, hosted yesterday at Cantella’s offices in Boston’s Financial District, attracted more than 25 youths, many accompanied by their DCF outreach workers, and featured representatives from a variety of professions.
Cantella President Jennie Devlin said she hopes the event sparks an ongoing dialogue with the youth involved. “Opening our network and building relationships with young people entering the workforce supports and cultivates talent in our community. Sharing the fruits of professional experience and providing information and advice to young people has a positive ripple effect, helping all of us achieve more.”
Last night’s event featured:
- Personal insights from experienced professionals into the day-to-day activities, career paths, and opportunities in specific industries and jobs, including nursing, law enforcement, public education, information technology and cybersecurity, law, and professional and financial services.
- Presentations on interviewing skills, resume-building, professional communications, and social media usage for networking and job search.
- Individual Q&A and breakout sessions with participating professionals.
The collaboration builds on an ongoing relationship between Cantella and DCF, originating with Cantella’s participation in DCF’s internship program, which offers teens the opportunity to gain professional experience before entering the workforce. “We are very grateful to Cantella for its generosity in providing paid internships to our foster youth and the unique opportunity to network with local professionals at Career Night,” said Maureen Messeder, Director of Adolescent Services at DCF. “Caring community partners like Cantella are instrumental to our efforts to help children achieve their long-term goals.”
Cantella and DCF thank the Boston Police Department, the Boston Public Schools, the Boston Children and Family Law Division, FireEye, Beth Israel Deaconess Healthcare, Beacon Hill Staffing, and Putnam Investments for their invaluable participation in our first Career Night.
