NEW YORK, May 16, 2017 -- The Bob Woodruff Foundation today announced $3.3 million in grants, awarded to 32 nonprofit programs meeting the needs of post-9/11 veterans, service members and their families.

The foundation’s ability to Find, Fund and Shape™ these programs stems from a decade’s worth of experience, following reporter Bob Woodruff’s injuries from a roadside bomb while reporting in Iraq.
“Our mission was born out of an authentic experience that is directly relatable to the community we serve,” said Anne Marie Dougherty, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. “We look at our grantees as a portfolio, that we cultivate carefully for impact and sustainability, to make a meaningful investment in the lives of our veterans and their families.”
The Bob Woodruff Foundation identified strategic priorities and awarded grants based on specific issue areas that are emerging or insufficiently supported by the public and private sector.
The latest awards emphasized quality of life programs, including those that seek better legal outcomes for those who have served, provide healthy activities to engage veterans in their communities, and provide respite and support for caregivers and families.
Education and employment grants focused on the career needs of veterans, especially those with service-connected disabilities, and will offer training and certification in high-demand career fields, as well as fellowship programs that offer a renewed opportunity to serve at home.
Rehabilitation and recovery grants will help increase the number of mental health providers who are qualified to treat post-traumatic stress disorder with evidence-based therapies. They will also teach coping mechanisms, reduce the difficulties of receiving care and emphasize healthy living.
