Arab and Muslim Voters in Key Swing States
Arab American and Muslim voters are increasingly dissatisfied with U.S. support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Lebanon. This discontent could shift the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, according to Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
Jill Stein’s Rising Support
While Stein holds only 1% support nationally, her backing among Arab and Muslim voters in battleground states like Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin is growing. These communities were crucial in helping President Joe Biden secure narrow victories in 2020, and their support may now lean toward Stein.
Calls for a Ceasefire and Arms Embargo
Stein’s platform calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a U.S. arms embargo on Israel. This stance has resonated with many Arab and Muslim voters who are frustrated with the current U.S. administration’s policies. A poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) showed Stein pulling votes from Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in key swing states.
Impact on the Democratic Party
Stein’s candidacy poses a challenge for Harris, who is in a tight race with Republican candidate Donald Trump. Some Democrats have labeled Stein a “spoiler,” arguing her 2016 run helped Trump win. Meanwhile, Harris has been engaging with Muslim and Arab communities to regain their support, but dissatisfaction persists.
