After more than a year since “Alita: Battle Angel” premiered, Disney has yet to decide if it is going to have a sequel despite the first movie’s ending hinting that there should be one. The James Cameron-produced film, however, managed to gather very dedicated fans that call themselves Alita Army and has recently made their demands known.
Fans wanting a sequel put up a billboard to raise demands
The Alita Army has done some noteworthy efforts to convince Disney that there is support for the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” Despite the studio’s continuing silence on the matter, the fans remain persistent.
Most recently, the Alita Army raised money to place their “Alita: Battle Angel 2” demands on a digital billboard in Los Angeles. The fan group’s website shows photos of the billboard display that includes quoted statements from cast members Rosa Salazar and Christoph Waltz, who played Alita and her father figure, Dr. Ido. Both Salazar and Waltz have expressed willingness to come back for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” and reprise their roles.
In the campaign’s GoGetFunding page, the group stated that it has raised the needed money for the “Alita: Battle Angel 2” billboard in just six hours. However, people can still donate, and any proceeds that will be collected will go to charity.
Alita Army chose Feeding America and Action Against Hunger as the beneficiaries while noting of the “Alita: Battle Angel 2” star’s own efforts to help homeless people in Los Angeles amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “Rosa Salazar has recently shared an Amazon wishlist with necessary items for homeless people living on the streets of Los Angeles (people whose lives are heavily impacted by the consequences of the pandemic),” the page reads.
What’s the status of ‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’
People attached to the making of “Alita: Battle Angel,” whether cast members or part of the production, have provided the same answer whenever asked about the sequel. However, Disney holds the final decision since it acquired 20th Century Fox, the first movie’s distributor, in a mega-merger last year.
There have been reports that Disney is in the process of considering producing the sequel. While that is not exactly a confirmation, it is still a good sign that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is not totally scrapped yet.
